About Tobar

In 1973, when we started creating this eclectic range, 'Toys for Non-Toy Shops' was a fair description of what we had to offer. Thirty four years later it still sums us up well, but with a constantly increasing and expanding range of more than a thousand items 'Something for Everyone' is an equally valid claim. A glance through our customer list reveals enormous variety; not only shops of every size and character, but also museums, country houses, garden centres, mail order catalogues, schools, theme parks - in fact anyone with a retail outlet who is looking for something a bit different. Our products are impossible to classify. It is not so much that we sell a certain thing, but rather that a particular sort of person buys what we sell.

We have no sales person to call on you. Our sales force consists of this catalogue, a large and rather gaudy stand at the Autumn and Spring Fairs in Birmingham and the Nurnberg Toy Fair, frequent communication by post, and an unusual willingness to be helpful on the telephone, in or out of business hours. For our sort of operation to be faultless, the whole range would always be in stock available for immediate despatch: and of course that is our aim. In practice, however, it is more a matter of 'all of the products most of the time, and most of the products all of the time, but not...'. We're working on it, though!

Immediate despatch is already almost always achieved: usually goods leave on a next-day delivery within 24 hours of being ordered, so you never have to carry huge stocks of anything, not even the lines which you will sell immediately.

Tobar was founded in 1973 by Sid Templer and is now run by his son, Toby.
